One of the extraordinary laws God gave to His people was called the “Year of Jubilee”.  Every 50 years a horn was blown and the Year of Jubilee began.  If you were a slave or indentured servant you were set free.  If your family had been sold into slavery, they were set free.  If you had sold your family’s land, you had the right to buy it back.  It was a year where everything was set right again.

   What a vivid picture of what awaits those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ.  The Year of Jubilee that is ahead of us will never end.  That which was ordained in the Garden of Eden will be restored and then some.  We will walk in the presence of our creator and fellowship with Him.  The Bible says Christ will return with the trumpet’s call and He will take us to our eternal rest.

   What a day to anticipate with all of our hearts!  We are awaiting the groom; the wedding feast has been made ready.  In the ancient days of Israel, the groom would go ahead of his betrothed and make ready a place for them to live.  When it was finished he would return and take her there to be his bride.  So it is that Christ has told us, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3).  Consider it, even now a place is being prepared for those whose names are written in the Book of Life.  Daily we toil with one eye to the horizon where we long to see the silhouette of our beloved coming to take us home. 

   How then shall we live?  We should live as aliens and strangers in this world, only passing through. We live as those awaiting a hope far greater than this world can offer.  .

The year of jubilee’s coming,

when I will be set free

From all this world’s pain and toils,

I’ll be with Jesus for eternity

The year of jubilee’s comes

So stand church, rise up,

The clouds will part the trumpets sound and we will meet Him in the air

The year of jubilee’s coming,

the banquet is set at hand

Those redeemed in Christ will all be waiting,

For the wedding feast of the Lamb

The year of jubilee comes
