Gaining weight is a funny
thing. It is a process of
cultivation. The weight sneaks up on you
as bad eating habits take root. Over a
period of months you look in the mirror and wonder, “have I gained some
weight?” But the change is slight, not
worth any effort… yet. By the time we
stop asking but instead state “I have gained some weight”, the damage is done and a
difficult diet is in our near future.
So it is with sin, but
worse. We sow thoughts and actions that
seem insignificant in and of
themselves. “It’s only one...” we tell ourselves. But habits are formed in the lands skirting
the boarders of our morals. “The Way We
Rise” is about the sliding scale of purity that the church of America has
adopted. Too often we run from God’s
Word and replace it with a veneer of religion. Too often we hide our sin, thinking it will
protect the testimony of the church. All the while those who
need our testimony most mock our
hypocrisy. The Bride in America has not
become the harlot yet but I
think she’s seeing someone on the
side.
We have a choice, we fall
or we rise. It is easier to fall. The scales are certainly tipped in that
direction. But if a generation of Christians
would choose to rise in the powerful arms of grace, unashamed, then we would
see the mighty hand of God touch this nation in such a way as has never been
seen. Like the lost son from his home
with the pigs, we must “come to our senses” and realize the wealth of love and
favor that lies in our Father’s house.
Then we rise.
"…if My people who are called by My name
will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked
ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their
land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
The
Way We Rise
We run, we’re chasing, pursuing sin
And the world we are in
We sink, more quickly, more deeply
Than we intend, it’s so easy getting in
This is the way we run, from the living God
This is the way we fall, hiding all of our sin
This is the path we lay, on the serpent’s lie
This is the plague of man, the unfaithful bride
We find, our choices and our voices are
Diluted lies
We stand, turn towards home, damage done
We’re looking for love, in our Father’s eyes
This is the way we rise, in the power of grace
This is the way we fight
These are the sins exposed, and nailed to the cross
This is the bride returned, though she once was lost
This is the way we rise, in the power of grace
This is the way we fight
These are the sins destroyed, by the power of the cross
This is the bride returned, to her God
