Ancient of Days was written as a praise
chorus for our high school youth group.
I have always loved the names for God listed in the Bible. I think there is tremendous power and insight
in each and every one of them. I
have always been especially fond of one in
particular... the “Ancient of
Days.” It is used three times in the
book of Daniel. Listen to this
description of the Ancient of Days from Daniel 7, "As
I looked, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His
clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His
throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from
before him. Thousands upon thousands
attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were
opened.”
What an awesome picture of
the almighty and everlasting God. There
were two things that struck me as I was writing this
song. One, even in my failure God is
still glorified. Romans 5:20 says,
“where sin did abound, there did grace much more abound.” God is sovereign, He is the King, and my only response
can be to fall down before his throne and worship because all of my works come
to nothing before Him. Two, though He is
the Ancient of Days and has spanned the time before time and will always be, He
chooses to be right here with me today.
The Ancient of Days knows my name and even the number of hairs on my
head and He desires intimate time together in fellowship. That, my friends, blows me away. Here are some of the verses that are the
foundation of this song, Romans 5:20-21, 2 Corinthians 12:7-11, Psalms
55:16-17, Luke 15:17-20, Revelations 4:9-11, Galations 3:26-27.
"In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He
approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign
power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His
dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is
one that will never be destroyed.” Daniel 7:13-14
Ancient
of Days
When I’m
weak you are strong
Through
my sin your grace is seen
When I
fall you raise me up,
You are
my King
And I
will bow
and cast
my crowns down at your feet
You are
the Ancient of Days
but today
your love came to me
When I
cry you always hear
When I’m
alone you draw near
And when
I run away You’re right behind me Lord
And I
will bow
and cast
my crowns down at your feet
You are
the Ancient of Days
but today
your love came to me
Your Son
He died to bring me life
Your Son
was raised to give me the Spirit of Truth
I stand unworthy in this place
But I
know I’ve been made worthy by you
I’m
covered in the blood of the Lamb
When I’m
weak you are strong
Through
my sin your grace is seen
When I
fall you raise me up,
You are
my King
And I
will bow
and cast
my crowns down at your feet
You are
the Ancient of Days
but today
your love came to me
